Being a newbie gardener (1 year down) can be frustrating. What comes so easily for other backyard farmers and gardeners is still a learning process for me. 🙁 If you read yesterday’s post about my green peppers, then you know that frustration.
I see pictures posted about all these delicious harvests from summer gardens…well at least I had some tomatoes early in the summer. But it has been a pretty slim summer.
But onto the report!
First, let’s check in with the watermelons…or would-be watermelons
They are literally 3-4x the length they were a mere 3 weeks ago. I have a ton of blossoms on there but, alas, no melons. I fear that nothing has been pollinated. I am going to try some self pollination tomorrow morning but if we don’t get some action in the next 10 days this will have to be pulled. Watermelon season is coming to and end. 🙁
The Tomatoes
Nothing new to report here. I am holding out hope for these two. The pink brandywine had really had some great growth over the last few weeks. The Sweet Potatoes
I dug around in the tub but didn’t find anything. I think we may be looking at an October harvest on these.
The Bell Peppers….sigh
Amazingly they are sprouting leaves again. I am going to give them a few weeks and see what happens. I went to my friend’s house today and her “volunteer” plants were filled with lovely red bell peppers…where is my tissue??? 😉
Well that’s it for this week. I am working on my fall plan…stay tuned! 😀
