Since becoming a mother, I have cherished celebrating mother’s day. Yesterday was no exception. I was treated a sweet card, breakfast out and later a movie. Very low-key and perfectly suited for me. 🙂 Sadly I was so caught up in the day I didn’t capture one picture. 😛
Mother’s Day can be a little rough on me though. I lost my mom when I was 13 so it is a huge reminder of that loss every year. Thankfully I have been blessed with “other mothers” in my life; my 2 grandmothers, my mother-in-law and a few mentors along the way.
But should we really limit showing our moms love, respect and admiration to just 1 day out of the year? I think not. 😉
All moms are working moms. We are all balancing a 100 different tasks and responsibilities at any given time…sometimes more. Most do it without complaint and without a lot of help.
So I offer you 30 ways to show mom you care all year long – The Care & Keeping of Mothers.
#30 – Go buy 12 Mother’s Day Cards, they are on sale now, and send or give her a card every month for the next year!
#29 – Wash her car. Heck wash it once a week for the next year. Don’t forget to polish the dash!
#28 – Organize a family photo. Moms are usually the ones taking or booking appointments for pictures. YOU make the appointment, organize the family and make sure everyone coordinates. Then frame it up for Mom!
#27 – Clean the garage. Ok, maybe this is just me. Our garage looks like a tornado hit after and earth quake. If that’s your mom’s garage then tell her you’re taking the weekend to clean it out and organize it. Help her with the yard sale if she wants to do one!
#26 – Buy her a cup coffee and enjoy a chat. If you aren’t in the same area send her a Starbuck’s Gift Card and schedule a time for a phone call while she sips her java.
#25 – Take a class together. Find out what she’s always wanted to learn and join in!
#24 – Let her teach you something. You’ll be surprised what she has to offer.
#23 – Rub her shoulders. You don’t have to pay for an expensive massage, we’d be happy with a 10 minute shoulder massage!
#22 – Make her a playlist (or cd) of songs that remind you of her. Don’t forget to include a box of tissues!
#21 – Do the dishes. Don’t wait to be asked, just do them. Heck do them a lot!
#20 – Cook her favorite dinner (then see #21).
#19 – Give her the night off. Take the kids (or other kids) out for the evening. Sometimes just sitting in the comfy chair with our feet up can change everything. 😉
#18 – Call her. If you’re out of town or even just out of the house, call your mom.
#17 – Help her in the garden or yard. Plant, pull weeds, compliment…you get the gist.
#16 – Write her a memory. Put pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard) and write out a special memory of her.
#15 – Take her to a movie. Just make sure it is one she wants to see.
#14 – Clean her windows, inside & out. Don’t forget any sliding glass doors!
#13 – Let her sleep in. She probably needs it.
#12 – Put the kids to bed for her. Make sure they’ve showered and brushed their teeth while Mom relaxes.
#11 – Clean the baseboards once a month for a year.
#10 – Make a slide show of her favorite pictures and set it to meaningful music (again tissues).
#9 – Compliment her. It goes a lot farther than you think.
#8 – Knock something off her to-do list. You know she has one!
#7 – Give her a social media shout out…just make sure you tag her in it. 😉
#6 – Send or bring her flowers for absolutely no reason. If she isn’t the flower type then bring her chocolate.
#5 – Do ALL the laundry. Wash it, dry it, fold it and put it away!
#4 – Go for a walk together.
#3 – Make her something meaningful (useful would be good too). No, you are not too old for that.
#2 – Send her to the spa – hair, nails, facial…the works. Or do what you can at home if that isn’t in the budget.
#1 – TELL HER YOU LOVE HER EVERY SINGLE DAY!!!
It isn’t about spending money, though that’s nice too. It is all about showing her the love all year long! 🙂
